Sepilok Nature Resort is the perfect staging point for wildlife adventures further afield, in the Lower Kinabatangan River floodplains or the Sugud Islands Marine Conservation area, both only about a two hours' journey away.
A casual stroll through these semi wild state gardens is an experience in itself. Discover the wild orchids in bloom, from the largest orchid plant in the world to the uncommon diminutives. When the fig trees are in season, watch for the feeding hornbills and multitude other birds, especially during dawn and dusk periods.
Don't be surprised if you encounter a troop of macaques raiding a fruit tree. Carry a walking stick with you if you intend to undertake an extended jaunt through the less tended areas, to ward off any offensive animals, or snakes.
Check out our websites for more information on the marine conservation area and request our counter staff for booking arrangements. While at the Sepilok Nature Resort, feel free to ask about birding walks, night walks, local and city tours, or a guided tour to the rehabilitation center to observe the orang utans and the sun bears.
